Should I disclose mental health conditions in my job application?

Updated: Jan 5

Employee Misconduct

It is essential to bear in mind that the decision to disclose mental health conditions in a job application is a personal one. If you feel at ease and consider that it will not adversely impact your application, this could help employers provide the necessary support. However, it is not mandatory, and you are not obliged to do so unless it directly impacts your ability to perform the job. Before determining whether or not to disclose this information, it is imperative to consider the company culture and policies.

In light of recent developments in workplace equity, it is incumbent upon employers to be mindful of the dos and don'ts. In case of uncertainty regarding the appropriateness of certain conditions, it would be best for you to seek the guidance of a legal professional.

REL Alliance is pleased to offer a webinar on "Addressing Employee Misconduct and Grievances, ensuring compliance with the Employment Act and Workplace Fairness legislation". Participants will benefit from our legal expert, and acquire a better understanding of how to assist their organizations in dealing with such matters in compliance with the Singapore Employment Act and the update on Workplace Fairness Legislation.
